Humber College is leading the way towards the development of Canada’s first Broadcast-Broadband Convergence B2C Lab to explore multisectoral industrial data delivery applications enabled by the new Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 television broadcast standard. The ATSC 3.0 standard runs on an IP backbone and shares a common base clock (384kHz) with 5G networks so it can be easily integrated to improve broadcast mobility and allow convergence use-cases with 5G delivery depending on protocol stack signaling. Humber’s industry-focused applied research will include over the air broadcast-datacast applications in television interactivity and non-television datacasting converged with global data delivery standards providing seamless integration with fixed and mobile devices across any content environment.

What you will do:
Reporting to the B2C Lab Applied Research Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the B2C lab infrastructure including installing and configuring lab equipment and ensuring the safe operation of the equipment by researchers and research assistants working in the lab.

What you bring to the role:

Education

  • A 3-year diploma in Electrical or Computer Science Engineering and will have a membership in a sector-related associate (i.e., Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) would be an asset.

Experience
Three (3) years experience in the following:

  • Experience in an industrial or a research lab environment.
  • Experience working with internet protocol applications
  • Experience in audio, visual, data compression for IP networks including MPEG DASH.
  • Experience with IT cloud-based network architectures, software coding including, HTML 5, CSS and JavaScript and knowledge of audio/video CODECs.
  • Knowledge of mobile networks and cellular technology
