Title: Director, Advancement Services
Position Summary: The Director, Advancement Services is a new position, created to anticipate philanthropic strategies necessary to position Humber as a North American leader in polytechnic education. In this regard, the incumbent will help build an inspired team of development professionals who are passionate about the advancement of higher learning. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), the Director, Advancement Services will be a member of the Advancement and Alumni senior management team and will be responsible for directing an Advancement Services Officer, work study students and other staff to be determined as the portfolio grows. The incumbent will lead and oversee Advancement services and operations of the department providing oversight and management of the infrastructure and central services necessary to promote and sustain College-wide fundraising and alumni activities. This includes ensuring operational efficiency and supporting a service culture within Advancement Services. The candidate will also manage programs and staff tasked with responsibilities related to supporting fundraising functions in the areas of finance, donation services and gift administration; data, records and information services; reporting and online systems; support for tracking systems in the areas of prospect management, donor stewardship and annual giving; office management and administration. The successful candidate will also work closely with other senior leaders inside and outside of the department, and maintain a close day-to-day working relationship with the College’s Finance, Human Resources and Information Technology Services departments.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will be an innovative self-starter with the ability to motivate staff with a genuine passion to attain excellence. A degree in Business, Administration, Finance or a related discipline is required, along with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in a non-profit advancement services role specific to financial, information system, human resources, management and operations accountability. Solid knowledge of the charitable sector, tax laws and Canada Revenue Agency rules and guidelines; and not-for-profit policies is required. Additional qualifications include: strong understanding of fundraising methods and principles including annual fund, major gifts, sponsorship and planned giving programs; ability to identify and assess business needs and coordinate effective operating and system solutions; broad knowledge of organizational performance measurement and monitoring; strong knowledge of technology and computer systems including advanced Raiser’s Edge experience, proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and information system management; advanced computer skills, including background in database application, programming, data management and user training with a good grasp of data architecture; demonstrated project management skills to oversee complex projects, improve business processes and solve problems; demonstrated experience with budgeting, reporting, analysis and projection activities; and exceptional interpersonal skills, a collaborative style and effective writing and communication abilities. The ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends is required.
