Title: Energy Efficiency Specialist
Position Summary: Recognizing that mitigating the effects of climate change is of global importance; Humber has developed an Integrated Energy Master Plan (IEMP), a long-term, strategic, multi-phase plan with the aim of making us a leader in global energy efficiency. Humber has committed to the ambitious goals of reducing energy use by 50%, reducing water use 50%, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30%, all by 2034, including the establishment of a campus-wide energy culture. Under the direction of the Manager, Energy Efficiency, the Energy Efficiency Specialist will support Humber’s overall IEMP with a specific focus on improving the efficiency of existing buildings. The existing building stock is made up of 3M ft2 over two main campuses and has significant potential for energy optimization. The Energy Efficiency Specialist will utilize the existing infrastructure (sub-meters and BAS) to uncover anomalies in the data and work with the operations team to implement corrective actions or capital projects. The position will also be responsible for executing measurement & verification activities on individual sub-projects as well as the overall IEMP. Strong interpersonal skills will be critical for creating an energy culture within the operations team. Humber is looking for someone who is passionate about reducing energy in the existing building stock and motivated to help accomplish our vision for being a global leader in energy efficiency. This position is partially funded through the saveONenergy Energy Manager program. There is an opportunity to extend funding into future years if the minimum savings targets are achieved.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess a degree in a relevant field and should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a P. Eng., or Engineering Intern (EIT), mechanical preferred. The following designations will be considered assets: Certified Energy Manager (CEM); Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP). At a minimum, the CEM examination will need to be completed within the first 12 months of employment. Additional qualifications include a minimum of 3 years of experience engaged in related work; strong understanding of HVAC controls principles and sequence of operations; experience in Building Automation System (BAS) programming and commissioning an asset, although training on Humber’s Siemens BAS system will be provided as necessary; advanced skills in MS Excel (macros and pivot tables); strong analytical and problem solving skills; strong interpersonal skills; work as part of a team and communication with staff; passionate about energy management and sustainability; data analysis skills (preparing data for analysis, summary statistics, visual analysis, regression analysis, etc.); demonstrated success in project delivery and execution of energy management projects; and the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders with independence and professionalism.
