General Description of Class:
 
Under general direction, provides safety and security watch for the portion of the campus assigned.
 
Typical Duties:
 
The following illustrative tasks indicate the level of skill required, and the extent of responsibility involved in this job.  They in no way limit the incumbent to the tasks indicated.  
   
a) on inside or outside tours, will test doors and windows and try to lock them if open;

b) will admit people to buildings only by approval of the Police, except cleaners and others regularly in the buildings at the time indicated;

c) where provided, will punch his clock at all stations in his area;

d) carries out appropriate instructions and reports regularly in writing on the following:
i) open doors or windows,
ii) unauthorized persons, trespassers or loiterers, after asking them to leave,
iii) fires will be reported immediately to proper agencies and report made in writing also,
iv) condition of building, with special reference to fire hazards, missing extinguishers, lights, etc., and
v) will report on and correct running equipment, open gas or water vents; 

e) may be assigned duties in campus information service;

f) may use, where instructed, automobile or bicycle for extended outside tours

g) check exterior of campus buildings to ensure doors and windows are closed and locked;

h) report any building and campus hazards, suspicious persons and activities to campus police and respond to alarms, and other related duties as required;

i) will escort community members from one campus building to another and the closest TTC subway; and

j) other related duties as required.

Qualifications: 

Minimum Requirements: 

Education: Completion of the ninth grade; demonstrated ability to write reports.
 
Experience: At least one year of related experience desirable.
 
Other: Ability to meet the public effectively and to exercise judgement and tact; good English communication and comprehension skills.  Must possess and maintain a valid License to Act as a Security Guard and/or Private Investigator issued by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.  May be required to possess and maintain a valid non probationary “G” Ontario Drivers License. Must possess and maintain a valid Level “C” CPR and Standard Level First Aid Certificate through a recognized provider.  Must maintain clean criminal record.

Notes: Please note: Hours of work are Saturday and Sunday 2:30 pm to 11:00 pm. Hours of work may change due to operational requirements.

Hourly Rate: Probationary Rate: $18.28/hr — Job Rate: $20.29/hr 

Shift Premium: $0.65 / hr
