Reporting to a designated Manager, the Assistant Project Supervisor, Architectural/Structural will be responsible for the supervision of district wide construction projects in designated discipline (Architectural/Structural).
The Assistant Project Supervisor, Architectural/Structural will:
· Work closely with the Project Supervisor to ensure that established schedules and approved budgets are maintained;
· Supervise and provide leadership to a multi-disciplinary team; and
· Ensure safety procedures are in place in accordance with engineering standards and building.
Summary of Duties:
Ø Supervise district wide construction projects in designated discipline i.e. Architectural/Structural;
Ø Establish client requirements through meetings with Principals and Superintendents;
Ø Liaise with Project Supervisors, Facility Team Leaders, Maintenance Team Leaders and trade staff;
Ø Ensure acceptable standards are developed, standardized and followed;
Ø Optimize the use of allocated resources, including the planning, delivery and evaluation of services;
Ø Administer the acquisition, distribution and use of resources;
Ø Supervise the scheduling and completion work utilizing SAP PS system and SAP PM work order management;
Ø Supervise and lead a multi-disciplinary team;
Ø Participate in interviews and make recommendations in the hiring of staff;
Ø Prepare performance reviews and evaluations, provide solutions to enhance performance, and determine disciplinary action where appropriate;
Ø Work closely with the Project Supervisor to resolve labour relations related issues, in accordance with collective agreement provisions, policies and procedures, and in consultation with Employee Services;
Ø Plan staffing needs and requirements to ensure acceptable service levels;
Ø Maintain appropriate standards of service;
Ø Promote continuous improvement in service delivery processes;
Ø Ensure applicable work processes are documented and followed and inspect work to ensure outcomes meet stated objectives;
Ø Prepare and communicate construction project schedule reports to various stakeholders;
Ø Attend and participate in meetings and establish networks for information sharing;
Ø Negotiate service levels, resources and commitment;
Ø Manage project budget, including the monitoring of expenditures, investigating variances and the analysis monthly expenditure reports;
Ø Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with all applicable legislation including the Health and Safety Act, WSIB;
Ø Monitor and recommend training programs for staff;
Ø Ensure licenses are up to date for in-house staff;
Ø Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of programs and services; and
Ø Other duties as assigned.
Ø Three year community college diploma in Architectural/Structural Engineering technology with five years of relevant experience within a large multi-site, multi-union environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
Ø Strong construction project management skills;
Ø Experience evaluating construction documents and monitoring costs;
Ø Demonstrated ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with others;
Ø Conflict resolution and mediation skills;
Ø Understanding and working knowledge of related policies, procedures and collective agreement provisions, government regulations, legislation and building codes;
Ø Proven ability to communicate effectively with staff, stakeholders, outside contractors, suppliers, manufacturers and Union representatives;
Ø Experience administering contracts with contractors;
Ø Successful supervisory experience including leadership, mentoring and team building skills;
Ø Strong organization and problem solving skills;
Ø Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity; and
Ø Proficient computer skills, including spreadsheets, databases, word processing, work order management system (SAP PM,) Auto Cad, email, Internet.
Ø Provision of own vehicle for Board business.
Ø Requires regular travel across the TDSB.
Ø Available on call evenings and weekends to respond to issues and emergency situations
Ø Requires wearing safety equipment (e.g., safety shoes, hard hats) when visiting construction sites.
Ø Membership in the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist;
