The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (LA&PS) is the largest Faculty at York University with over 27,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and almost 100 programs delivered through 24 Departments, Schools and Colleges, plus the IBM Markham Learning Site. Reporting to the Manager, Student Success & Access Programs, the Student Success Coordinator works with the Associate Dean, Teaching & Learning, the Associate Dean, Programs, and the Associate Dean, Students and Student Success & Access Programs team to deliver excellence in supporting and championing students and their success. The Coordinator participates in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of student success and retention programs and coordinates the effective integration of programs across the student life-cycle from prospective student, to beginning alumni engagement for LA&PS students. This includes student transition programs, peer assisted learning programs, peer mentorship, programs focusing on student leadership and development, and providing direct student support through one on one and group student success coaching. The Coordinator closely collaborates with the Student Success & Access team and LA&PS Colleges to integrate approaches to student success programs during the phases of Recruitment and Conversion, Transition, Academic Orientation, First Year, the Middle Years and Upper Year. The Coordinator collaborates with various campus resources as partners in student success, programs, and initiatives. The Coordinator closely collaborates with the Student Success & Access team in the coordination of the recruitment, selection, training, and oversight of all working and volunteering students who are assigned to the high priority student success programs. Working closely with the Manager, the Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of the operational elements of program planning including, but not limited to the detailed annual development of operational plans and the analysis and reporting of evaluation data. The Coordinator works closely with their manager to develop programs that are evidence based, theoretically informed and measurable The Coordinator supports the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and York University, and contribute to a positive, supportive and client-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration and continuous improvement. To be considered for this opportunity, you will bring the following:
Education:
University degree inclusive of courses in a field related to student development theories, student engagement, leadership studies, adult learning and/or training, or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks, plus relevant specialized education or training. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. Advanced education at the graduate level and certification, such as Supplemental Instruction (Peer Assisted Study Session), would be an asset.
Experience:
Two (2) years recent related work experience developing, implementing and facilitating student-centred programs designed to support student engagement, student leadership and student success in higher education. Advanced knowledge of student development theories specializing in student leadership, engagement and success in higher education. Experience in developing, implementing and coordinating events. Experience in evaluating student success programs. Proven experience drafting documents, reports and communications for a variety of audiences. Familiarity with National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) and Beginning College (University) Survey of Student Experience (BSSE). Experience in coordinating the work of peer leaders and/or Work/Study students.
