Job Description

Working under the direction of the Finance Officer, the Senior Financial Analyst will assist with all aspects of financial reporting, which includes month-end close, and budget development for Estimates and Revised Estimates. The successful candidate will collaborate with Accounting Department staff in the preparation of 7-month and year-end reporting requirements and assist with the completion of the Board’s financial statements and Education Finance Information System (EFIS).

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

  • Work with stakeholders in the Board throughout the Budget Process and determine annual needs and the feasibility of requests;
  • Ensure budget lines and personnel data is accurate given historic and expected projections by analyzing YTD actuals against budgeted amounts;
  • Ensure projections to end of year reflect the most up to date data and are reasonable given expectations set in the Estimates and Revised Estimates cycles;
  • Create, maintain and distribute meaningful financial analysis reports to stakeholders on a monthly basis;
  • Collaborate with department staff to identify and resolve discrepancies and budgetary variances on a timely basis;
  • Assist Finance Officer with completion of schedules in Education Finance Information System (EFIS);
  • Prepare and review journal entries for month end, 7-month and year-end reporting;
  • Support the preparation of month-end, 7-month and year-end reporting processes;
  • Ensure appropriate accounting treatment of tangible capital assets in compliance with Ministry of Education guidelines and Public Sector Accounting Standards;
  • Liaise with external auditors, all levels of management, and Ministry staff;
  • Participate in special projects and educational opportunities to facilitate continuous improvement and learning;
  • Other requirements that may arise as the needs of the Board change and as directed by the Finance Officer.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • A four-year University Degree in Accounting or a related field;
  • Three to five years of progressive accounting experience (experience as a financial analyst in a school board environment is preferred);
  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA, CPA-CA, CPA-CMA, CPA-CGA) or actively working towards completion of designation;
  • Member in good standing with the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA Ontario);
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft NAV Dynamics/Microsoft Dynamics 365;
  • Previous experience with Budgeting software;
  • Comprehensive understanding of Public Sector Accounting Standards;
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.

This is a full time, permanent position.

HOURS: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday

LOCATION: Catholic Education Centre, Welland, ON

SALARY RANGE : $83.887.39 – $93,208.21 per annum
