The Opportunity

The New Brunswick Community College Student Union (NBCCSU) is seeking a Student Life Assistant for the Moncton and Saint John campuses.

Employment Type: Part-time to December 2024 (20 hours weekly)

Salary: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Location: Saint John and Moncton

Hours of work may vary depending on activity - some evenings and/or weekend work may be involved.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

The Student Life Assistant, supervised by the Local Student Life Officer and NBCCSU General Manager, assists the Student Life Officer (SLO) and local NBCCSU. These positions will together provide a holistic approach to identifying and addressing student needs on and off campus.

The Student Life Assistant works with the SLO to ensure a positive culture of inclusivity and connection with all students and, where required, advocates for them.

In this role, you will:

  • Assist in facilitating the election process in the Spring and Fall.
  • Provide guidance, training and coaching to the local NBCCSU executives and class representatives.
  • Assist the Student Union members in the planning and implementation of student activities on campus.
  • Assist Local Student Life Officer with their responsibilities.
  • Maintain and respond to the Student Emergency Food Cupboard.
  • Dedicated office hours.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma with a post-secondary diploma or degree. Preference will be given to those who studied administration, communications, marketing or similar.
  • Have or be willing to take first aid training, mental health first aid and ASSIST.
  • Criminal Record Check.

Professional Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in English.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong ability to take initiative and complete tasks as assigned.
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent time-management skills.
  • Can initiate tasks/projects confidently and competently.
  • Strong ability to communicate easily and fluidly through technology and social media.
  • Works well both independently and in high-performance teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership and public speaking abilities.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of Quickbooks.
  • Promotional or marketing experience.
  • Work experience in post-secondary education.
