Work Year: 10 months school year Positions available:

Contract (20 hours per week)

Our Early On Child & Family Centres are school based programs where parents/caregivers and their children, from birth to six years of age, participate in play-based activities that promote the development of literacy and numeracy skills through discovery, inquiry, exploration and creativity. The programs are free and open to all. Our Early On Child & Family Centres:

  • Support children's early learning and well-being of the whole child.
  • Promote positive parent-child interaction and engagement.
  • Help children transition more easily to kindergarten through a collaborative approach between parent/caregiver, program facilitator and kindergarten teacher.
  • Engage parents/caregivers positively with the school system using an inclusive approach.
  • Meet the unique and individual needs of families.
  • Assist and link families to community resources.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Early On Child & Family Centre in accordance with Board policies and procedures, and requirements
  • Facilitating parenting education that promotes a positive home/school partnership
  • Encouraging parental engagement in planning and participating in activities with the children
  • Working in collaboration with the Principal, school staff and childcare staff (if applicable) to provide a high quality, play-based, developmentally appropriate programs
  • Ensuring consistent program delivery that is based on current research and best practices
  • Providing a welcoming, safe, tidy and clean, nurturing, inclusive and respectful environment for the parents/caregivers and children
  • Providing a nutritious snack to the children attending the program
  • Participating in outreach, as necessary, to promote the program and maintain attendance levels
  • Tracking program progress and attendance and ensuring records are kept up to date
  • Performing administrative duties such as data collection for program statistics, maintaining inventory of the Centre and submitting written requests for supplies and equipment etc.
  • Participating in ongoing professional development and various meetings (e.g. with staff, agencies, communities, schools etc.) as required,
  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Early Childhood Education Diploma plus at least 2 years of related university education
  • Minimum two years' experience working with families and their young children (ages 0 6) in a childcare or educational setting
  • Knowledge of and experience in family literacy and early childhood education
  • Knowledge of the early acquisition of literacy and numeracy skills
  • Experience in working with various outreach and community development programs
  • Strong leadership, communications, organization and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of How does learning happen document and learning through play & inquiry and Reggio Emilia Theory an asset

This is an A.P.S.S.P. union position - Rate: $39.87/hour (Inclusive of Statutory Holiday and Vacation Pay)
