TEACHERS OF THE DEAFBLIND - On-Call/Supply Opportunities

Are you interested in the education of students who are deafblind?  Consider bringing your professional expertise to the Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch.  Currently there is an exciting career opportunity available on an as required basis at our W. Ross Macdonald School in Brantford, which serve students who are deafblind in a student lodging school setting at both the elementary and secondary school levels.

• Primary/Junior/Intermediate and/or Senior division qualifications required

NOTE:  PDSB is currently inviting applications from OCT qualified teachers who are interested and willing to obtain the Deaf-Blind Specialist.

You will:

• Provide individual/group programs of instruction for students who are deafblind;
• Plan individual program needs as well as diagnosis and prescriptive teaching;
• Provide regular communication to parents regarding school and classroom activities;
• Participate in professional development activities.

What we are looking for:

Qualifications:

• Valid Certificate of Registration and Qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers;
• Willingness to work towards obtaining Teaching Students who are Deaf-Blind teaching qualifications;
• Primary/Junior/Intermediate and/or Senior division qualifications required.

Abilities:

• Ability and demonstrated experience teaching students who are deafblind;
• Ability to apply an in-depth knowledge of the principles of teaching students who are deafblind;
• Ability to apply curriculum adaptations, methods and materials to assist students who are deafblind;
• Ability to develop/modify lesson plans to successfully teach students who are deafblind;
• Ability to effectively manage a classroom and students using a variety of behavioural management techniques;
• Ability to write and present education materials and lesson plans using excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
• Ability to communicate with students who are deafblind;
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
