Learning Commons Coordinator, Content & Collections
Permanent Full-Time (12 Months)

Summary of Position:
The Learning Commons Coordinator, Content and Collections, oversees the daily operations of the Learning Commons area, focusing on creating a welcoming environment that is conducive to Learning. They collaborate with community members to co-create resource guides and recommend resource materials for classes, affinity groups and councils. Collaborating with other Learning Commons staff, they identify the necessary information technology competencies and information literacy skills and work with faculty to weave those skills into the curriculum.  The LC Coordinator works in a procedural, consensus-building manner with faculty, students, parents, and staff in keeping with the school’s vision, mission and values.

 

Specific Accountabilities:

Maintenance and Daily Operations

  • Oversees the physical LC space, collaborating with faculty and student groups in showcasing student work, organizing displays and special events
  • Manages traffic flow throughout the space, including Room Booking requests
  • Strategic planning to promote and ensure access to all LC resources, both print and digital
  • Provides reader’s advisory to students, staff and faculty, and promotes recreational reading through displays, special collections and reading programs

 

Acquisitions and Cataloging

  • Manages periodical subscriptions (print & online)
  • Collaborates on selection, ordering and coordinating with all key stakeholders
  • Supplementary cataloging

 

 Information Desk

  • Patron assistance: supports students, staff and faculty in all information needs
  • Help students troubleshoot technology and use academic resources for homework and projects
  • Provides Reader’s Advisory
  • Troubleshooting tech issues
  • Manage LC Room Bookings and general traffic flow
  • Manage circulation module on ILS

 

Outreach/Community Relations

  • Maintains and updates all facets of the library website
  • Liaise with Faculty; attend Dept Meetings
  • Liaise with student organizations
  • Manages volunteers

 

Collection Maintenance

  • Oversees processing of all materials
  • Maintenance of marc records for eresources
  • Removes deselected materials from catalog (print & eresources)
  • Manages Overdue notices
  • Inventory management
  • Weeding

 

General

  • Promotes information literacy and digital citizenship in all individual and group interactions
  • Attends department meeting and participates in the Administrative Specialist Team Meetings
  • Supports students in developing research skills, advises and assists students in selecting appropriate resources, demonstrate search strategies for databases, ebooks, the ILS (Destiny) and the internet
  • Provides services essential to a program centered on students’ needs and the instructional goals of the school
  • Provides reader’s advisory to students, faculty and staff, and promotes recreational reading through displays, special collections and reading programs.

 

Skills, Experience and Attributes Include:

  • Graduate of a Library Technician Program with an emphasis on media and digital literacies
  • Strong knowledge of reading materials, both curriculum-related and recreational, appropriate for Middle School and Senior School students
  • Familiarity with Middle School and Senior School curriculum
  • Competence in the effective use of online Library databases, anad other digital and online resources
  • Keen interest and understanding of emerging technologies
  • Capacity to analyse problems and use the appropriate electronic tools required
  • Advanced familiarity with library OPACs, library automation and ILA modules
  • Proven strength in Microsoft Office, Google tools and products
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in order to work well with staff and students
  • Effective team player and ability to work independently with interruptions
  • Proven ability to think creatively, work collaboratively and problem-solve
  • Physical ability to perform shelving duties
