PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A FULL-TIME TEMPORARY CONTRACT TO JUNE 27, 2024. 

In this role under the direction of the Sr. Director, Student Success & Retention and working closely with the Associate Dean Students and academic leaders from across the Faculty, the Manager, Student Success & Academic Advising oversees the implementation of exceptional advising services in academic departments of LA&PS. In addition, the Manager will be responsible for training and development of advisors across the Faculty, ensuring that training and development curriculum is consistent with and reflective of the National Academic Advising Association's (NACADA) standards and York University's Advising Core Competencies. This position will play a vital role in the Faculty's commitment to delivering excellence in student academic advising. The Manager ensures delivery of high-quality student service through leveraging and advancing best practice in developmental advising, adult education, service excellence and advising models and tools. With thorough understanding of advising theories, technical knowledge, and York's core advising principles, the manager will act as a resource and subject matter expert for their team in order to ensure that students receive accurate information in a timely and caring manner and that advisors are accountable for the quality and standards of their work.With an emphasis on student success, the Manager will lead and oversee the work and practice of the Student Success and Academic Advising team in the academic departments and schools. They will foster the development of advanced advising skill and practice through the development and implementation of an advising onboarding and professional development curriculum for all Student Success & Academic Advisors within LA&PS. In addition, they will create a professional, positive, supportive, and student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement that embraces diversity and fosters inclusion. The Manager is a key leader, fostering connections within the Faculty and broader campus, and works in close collaboration with students, student groups, faculty and staff within the Dean's Office, academic units, colleges. The Manager applies data and metrics in alignment with Faculty and broader University priorities to inform and guide their work and that of the team.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will bring the following:

A graduate degree in a relevant field is required or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and progressive professional work and leadership experience. Specialized training in student success, retention, student development theory, programming and adult education is required. Working experience and training in academic advising is a requirement. Understanding of advising legislation and regulations, preferably at York, is required. 5 years of experience in a fast-paced post-secondary student affairs environment leading the coordination and provision of student success programming in an advising context. Proven innovative program design, implementation and evaluation of post-secondary student success and retention programs, initiatives and services is required. Experience leading others, including training and development grounded in adult education principles. Experience delivering developmental academic advising, preferably at York University, is required. In addition, practical and theoretical experience in social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion is preferred.
