REQUIREMENTS AND GENERAL DUTIES FOR ALL SCHOOL OUTREACH WORKER POSITION
School Outreach Worker will require either a Human Services Diploma or equivalent secondary training and experience in a related Discipline. The position also requires current CPR and First Aid training and NVCI; previous experience working with identified students; ability to work as a team member; establish a rapport and communicate effectively with students and staff; exercise good judgment; remain calm when handling difficult situations; maintain confidentiality and accurate anecdotal records and be willing to undertake new learning experiences.


Under the direction of the Principal, the School Outreach Worker would provide direct support to students. The School Outreach Worker would work collaboratively with other school staff to support students by providing support to increase personal growth opportunities and experience success in a variety of areas. The School Outreach Worker will participate in all school-based activities.


All duties will include the following:

  • Establish positive relationships with identified students.
  • "Check and Connect" with identified students providing personalized, timely interventions.
  • Promote independence and self-advocacy through prompting, reflection, reviewing and reinforcing.
  • Perform student interest assessments and match positive activity opportunities.
  • Organize, assist or facilitate school based special interest activities to engage students during non-academic time   periods.
  • Encourage students to respect the school’s code of conduct guidelines and positive and effective behavioral support (PEBS) initiative.
  • Model and encourage respect for self and others.
  • Promote or facilitate positive interactions among all students.
  • Record data and observations as directed (e.g. frequency of a particular behavior, on/off task data).
  • Coach and or mentor student(s) on self-esteem issues, etc.
  • Demonstrate willingness to participate in student activities.
  • Facilitate and model student involvement.
  • Provide specific workshops on interest/topics identified as important to students.
  • Assist with plans to address various underlying causes of attendance problems.
  • Enhance the availability and accessibility of services and programs to students through flexibility in planning meetings and scheduling work hours.
  • Assist with program support when specified and work independently with students.
  • Act as a navigator to students providing transportation, encouragement, support and accompaniment to various appointments.
  • Use appropriate physical interventions in accordance with Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training Program.
  • Work efficiently with external agencies.
  • Transportation of students.
