(3-year term – 10-month position)

The Toronto District School Board invites applications from qualified Teachers for the position of Elementary Teacher Autism Intensive Support Program (ISP) Special Education Teacher. The goal of the Autism Intensive Support Program is to address the needs of students with an autism exceptionality that have average cognitive potential and require an intensive level of support in a small classroom environment.
The Autism ISP teachers are part of a multidisciplinary team (teacher & support staff). The teacher reports to the School Principal.
Teachers must also have a demonstrated ability to take actions that address Anti-Indigenous Racism, Anti-Black Racism, Antisemitism, Islamophobia, Anti-Asian Racism, Ableism and Homophobia, among others, while promoting Human Rights, Equity and demonstrating Anti-Oppressive pedagogy.
This 10-month position will be filled commencing as soon as possible to August 31, 2027 subject to any restructuring, reorganization and/ or possible renewal.

Summary of Duties:
Ø Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of programs and services;
Ø Plan and deliver an education program based on the Ontario Curriculum expectations;
Ø Select from and implement a variety of Autism programming interventions, strategies and resources that may include among others: predictable daily routines, use of visual instructional materials, behavioural intervention, and social and communication skills development;
Ø Implement the requirements of PPM 090 into the classroom program and into students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs) as appropriate;
Ø Support the implementation of PPM 156;
Ø Work as part of a team in providing activities within the classroom and school environment that enhance the development of the students’ independence and understanding of a school culture and its expectations;
Ø Support integration of students in regular programs as appropriate;
Ø Develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that reflect appropriate strategies, including ABA principles, for students with an autism exceptionality in consultation with parents and, where appropriate, community agencies;
Ø Meet with other Autism Program Teachers on a defined schedule throughout the school year to promote best practices;
Ø Partner with other TDSB staff and community partners in planning for transitions, ongoing program development, implementation and evaluation;
Ø Communicate on a regular basis with parents/guardians; and
Ø Perform other duties as assigned with consideration to the unique needs of the program.
Qualifications and Skills:
Ø Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualifications in good standing;
Ø Qualifications in 2 Divisions (Junior/Intermediate);
Ø Additional qualifications in Special Education, (Part 1 minimum) with a preferred focus on Autism Spectrum Disorders;
Ø Proven ability in promoting equitable practices that value inclusiveness and diversity;
Ø Demonstrated excellence in the delivery of classroom programs and services for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders;
Ø Knowledge of and ability to implement the requirements of PPM 090 and PPM 156 and appropriate ABA instructional methods;
Ø Knowledge of system, community services and options for students with an autism exceptionality;
Ø Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team;
Ø Experience delivering staff development workshops/in-service;
Ø An understanding and a commitment to the TDSB Special Education Plan, as well as Special Education policies and procedures;
Ø Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a learning/working environment that actively promotes and supports human rights;
Ø Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
Ø Proven strengths in problem-solving and adapting to change; and
Ø Demonstrated competency in assistive, information and communication technology, including the use of SAP CRM, Trillium, Google Apps, e-mail, and technology related to Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Information for Candidates:
1. The successful candidate’s salary will be paid in accordance with the salary provisions for teachers in the Elementary Teachers’ collective agreement.
2. At the end of the term, candidates may apply for a central position or return to a teaching position in their home school, subject to the staffing/surplus procedures.
3. If a position of responsibility allowance is currently held, that allowance does not transfer to this position.
4. Part-time teachers who have accepted a .5 position for September 2024, cannot apply for a full-time position.
