Reporting to the Administrator of Capital Assets Management and School Finance, our Finance Specialists play a key role in supporting school finance operations. They provide guidance and support as it relates to school finance duties, collaborate with various internal stakeholders and oversee School Budget and School Generated Funds transactions.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

  • Conduct on-site school visits to ensure compliance with school generated funds policies, procedures and Ministry Reporting requirements;
  • Provide training and in service sessions to school finance staff;
  • Meet with the Administrator of Capital Assets Management & School Finance to discuss the status of school finance positions and activities;
  • Build positive relationships with school personnel while ensuring all interactions are confidential and professional at all times;
  • Confirm accuracy of account set codes selected by school staff;
  • Ensure invoice entry is accurate and received within Finance Department timelines (month-end, 7-month and year end reporting process);
  • Work closely with school finance staff to ensure accurate category balances at year end and prepare HST rebate applications to submit to CRA;
  • Participate in special projects and professional development opportunities to facilitate continuous learning;
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Two year college diploma in Business Accounting required;
  • Six months to one year School Board or other Public Sector entity accounting experience performing financial duties;
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
