JOB PURPOSE

The Vice-Principal & DP Coordinator plays a key leadership role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and vibrant learning environment. Reporting to the Middle & Senior School Principal, the Vice-Principal advances the school’s mission through leadership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This role includes overseeing IB Diploma Programme (DP) alignment, supporting instructional growth, building partnerships within the school community, and ensuring smooth daily operations within the division.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the Diploma Programme (PYP) Coordinator, ensuring IB alignment and program development

  • Support development and implementation of school programs and policies aligned with The York School’s mission

  • Foster continuous improvement in teaching by supporting faculty with instructional strategies and professional growth

  • Ensure curriculum and programs meet student needs through differentiated instruction, inclusivity, and cultural responsiveness

  • Address student support needs with families and staff, connecting to school resources as needed

  • Participate as a Supervisor in the Employee GDPP for assigned teachers, including classroom observations

  • Assist in day-to-day School operations, including scheduling, discipline, events, and resource allocation

  • Build partnerships with families and the community through communication and engagement activities

  • Represent The York School at community events, promoting school values and fostering relationships

  • Meet regularly with the other Vice-Principals to maintain IB philosophy continuity and collaborate to ensure vertical alignment across subject curricula

  • Collaborate with the Principal and Associate Head of Academic Innovation to meet IBO regulations and deadlines

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor of Education with OCT membership in good standing, and experience with the IB required

  • Principal’s Qualification Program (or equivalent) considered a strong asset

  • 3+ years of progressively more challenging experience in a leadership role within the education field

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to mediate and resolve matters with parents, students, staff and the broader community 

  • Has strategic academic vision and is current on educational research and pedagogy

  • Demonstrated excellence in strategic leadership, including highly developed skills to plan and drive the continued improvement, growth and development, and change management of a school 

  • Demonstrated exemplary interpersonal skills with a proven track record in effective conflict management, highlighted with authentic and empathetic interactions with others
