TEACHER OF THE DEAFBLIND

1.0 Permanent position - available September 2022

A rewarding opportunity awaits you with the Ministry of Education, Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch at the W. Ross Macdonald School.  Dedicated to providing quality education to blind, deafblind, and visually impaired students in the province, we are currently looking for innovative educators to fill the following positions:

• Competition #PDSB22-143- Teacher of the Deafblind -1.0 permanent position available September 2022

You will:

• Provide individual/group programs of instruction for students who are deafblind.
• Develop Individual Education Plans including curriculum expectations and assessment.
• Provide regular communication to parents regarding school and classroom activities.
• Participate in professional development activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Certificate of Registration and Qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers.
• Teaching Students Who Are Deafblind, Specialist qualifications, or willingness to obtain (minimum Teaching Students Who Are Deafblind Part 1)

ABILITY:

• Ability and demonstrated experience teaching students who are deafblind.
• Ability to apply an in-depth knowledge of the principles of teaching students who are deafblind.
• Ability to apply curriculum adaptations, methods and materials to assist students who are deafblind, including ability to develop/modify lesson plans to successfully teach students who are deafblind.
• Ability to effectively manage a classroom and students using a variety of behavioural management techniques.
• Ability to write and present education materials and lesson plans using excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to communicate with students who are deafblind.
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
