Middle School Associate Teacher

 Full-Time - 1 Year Contract

2022-23 Academic Year

The Middle School Associate Teacher works alongside our fantastic faculty who strive to help girls achieve their best, both academically and in their life’s pursuits. Our Faculty are passionate about their subject area and actively seek the opportunity for interdisciplinary and real-world connections through their practice. They are innovative not only in the use of technology but in the ways that they engage students in learning.

 

Summary of Position

This position has the opportunity to work alongside faculty in the classroom and to be an additional resource to all students as they complete the Ontario Grades 7 and 8 Science and Math curriculum, including Reach Ahead Math. While responsibility includes both science and math, greater focus will be placed on math. 

 

Specific Accountabilities

  • Provides input into the classroom teachers’ daily lesson plans, materials, and assessment as well as grading and reporting
  • Contributes to the development and execution of project-based STEM activities
  • Takes charge and facilitates lessons with various break out groups as the classroom teachers differentiate their instruction
  • Assumes collaborative responsibility for students meeting or exceeding curriculum expectations
  • Supports students and develops extension materials for students significantly exceeding curriculum expectations
  • Provides extra help to students before and after school, four times per week
  • Middle School staff advisor to the Math Olympics team (club) which meets once a week and travels on occasion to outside competitions
  • Responsible for external math competitions (Caribou, Gauss, AMC8) administration, collection, analysis and presentation of data
  • Participates in the Advisory program
  • Participates on both the Grade 7 and Grade 8 overnight outdoor education trips
  • Embeds diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging into all processes
  • Commits to the Faculty Growth and Evaluation Process
  • Participates in professional learning and growth 

 

Skills, Experience and Attributes

  • Knowledgeable in all areas of Mathematics and Science and related Ontario curriculum, including Growing Success
  • Ability to spark interest and passion within students for STEM learning 
  • Experience working with digital and analog tools in a design technology context
  • Passion for, and commitment to lifelong learning
  • Confident and able to command the respect of any break out groups they are asked to work with, independently delivering content, adjusting materials on the spot as needed and able to self-sufficiently problem-solve
  • Eager to collaborate and work in a team environment including participating on many cross-disciplinary initiatives
  • Proven ability to contribute to planning discussions to the point of challenging the core teachers’ ideas
  • Proven communication and presentation skills (both spoken and written) 
  • Strong technology skills – for learning and development of documentation
  • A growth mindset and commitment to  continuous improvement and learning
  • Culturally competent with a positive attitude toward cultural uniqueness and a readiness to accept and respect others
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
