We welcome internal and external applications to the Vice Principal Selection Process with the York Region District School Board.

Interested candidates are required to submit the following on-line application package to the attention of:

Application to Posting (January 10, 2025 to January 20, 2025) through Apply to Education (ATE)

  • Create a profile on Apply to Education (ATE);

  • Upload Cover letter (maximum of 1 page);

  • Upload Resume aligned with the YRDSB Leadership Framework for School Administrators (4 page maximum including listed references; black font - Arial, size - 11);

  • Upload most recent Teacher Performance Appraisal;

  • Provide three references (minimum). See Stage Three - Reference Checks section below. References will be contacted at Stage Three.

  • The Coordinating Team will review applications based on pre-screening requirements to determine candidates to move forward to Stage One.

Stage One: On-Site Oral Presentation (February 18, 2025 to March 7, 2025)

  • Oral Presentation - up to 40 Minutes
  • At the conclusion of your Oral Presentation, the panel will have a dialogue using the YRDSB Leadership Framework Reflective Question(s) that relate to your presentation to gain further insight into the candidates leadership and impact.
  • The Selection Team will review and score Stage One responses to determine a short-list to move forward to Stage Two.
  • Internal Candidates: In person presentation at your work location.
  • External Candidates: In person presentation at YRDSB Board location.

Stage Two: In-Person Interviews (April 22, April 23, and April 24, 2025)

  • Interview Questions will be aligned with the YRDSB Leadership Framework, Board’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan and the Director’s Action Plan;

  • Candidates will respond to a variety of interview questions; and

  • The Selection Team will review and score Stage Two responses to determine a short-list to move forward to Stage Three.

Stage Three: Reference Check

References (Three references will be contacted only in the final stage of the process)

  • Current Principal/Supervisor:
    • who is the candidate’s current supervisor; AND
    • who was the immediate previous principal/supervisor, where the current Principal/Supervisor has been the candidate’s supervisor for less than 5 months (at time of application).
  • Two Self-Selected Administrators (who have supervised the candidate and can confirm their leadership actions aligned with the YRDSB Leadership Framework)

Applicants should be aware of the following:

  • Prior to an offer of employment, successful candidates will be required to provide documentation indicating that they hold Vice Principal qualifications by January 31, 2025, and are currently a member, in good standing, with the Ontario College of Teachers (as per Section 262 of the Education Act).

  • Candidates must disclose whether they are currently under investigation by the Ontario College of Teachers.

  • The information being gathered in the selection process is collected pursuant to the Education Act and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Minimum Requirements for Vice Principal Candidates :

Internal Candidates

  • PQP Part 1 to be completed at the time of application submission and visible on OCT.ca.
  • PQP Part 2 to be completed, including practicum, by January 31, 2025.
  • Completion of Apply to Education (ATE) screening questions (e.g., discipline history, Experienced Teacher).
  • Performance Appraisal - most recent TPA, Ontario College of Teachers, etc..
  • References to be provided at time of application. References will not be contacted until stage three.
  • Additional Qualifications (e.g. Special Education Part 1, French) would be an asset.

External Candidates

  • Current Vice Principal.
  • PQP Part 1 and PQP Part 2 completed and visible on OCT.ca.
  • Completion of Apply to Education (ATE) screening questions (e.g., discipline history, Experienced Teacher).
  • Performance Appraisal - most recent TPA, Ontario College of Teachers, etc..
  • References to be provided at time of application. References will not be contacted until stage three.
  • Additional Qualifications (e.g. Special Education Part 1, French) would be an asset.

As a condition of employment, and In accordance with the Education Act, anyone seeking employment or wanting to volunteer must provide a satisfactory police record check. A Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) must be completed by the police services in the jurisdiction in which you reside, this is based on your home address (only accepted by police services within Canada); must be satisfactory to the YRDSB and completed within six (6) months prior to the scheduled start date. It is the candidates responsibility to provide the results to the Board upon instruction.

We will accept satisfactory PVSC’s that name any other school board and other employers (daycare centers, OCT, and employers that would require a police check for vulnerable persons) in Ontario and obtained within the last six (6) months
