This is an LTO position effective semester two (commencing January 30th 2025).
1.0 FTE ELD Literacy And Numeracy Development (LAND) Teacher
(Ajax High School location)
This teacher will be assigned to Ajax HS and will provide system support to ensure anti-oppressive, inclusive, equitable and accessible programming for MLL/ELD students and will work collaboratively to support families and school teams in the provision of service. The LAND teacher will deliver 3 ELD specific credits for MLL students on the ELD continua in grades 9 - 12.
This teacher shall report to the System Lead for Multilingual Language Learners and Superintendent of Education for Teaching & Learning K-12.
Responsibilities:
● Provide relevant programming and instruction to Multilingual Language Learners, specifically English Literacy Development (ELD) learners who meet the criteria for the intensive LAND program .
● Program, plan and assess 3 credits per semester for ELD students including:
○ Semester 2: ELDB01, MAT2L1, Sheltered credit (EPS301, CHV/GLC201, GLD201)
● Deliver an intensive credit course program in conjunction with providing MLL/ELD resource support to schools.
● Provide MLL/ELD programming leadership for teachers, in collaboration with MLL coach
● Develop appropriate curriculum support materials, in-service staff where required and respond to requests for assistance from Principals and teachers
● Liaison between administration, teachers, caregivers and community services personnel (SWIS)
● Monitor and support MLL/ELD student achievement
● Administer STEP assessments as needed
The successful candidate must demonstrate:
● Experience working with MLL students requiring ELD support
● Strong understanding and application of anti-oppressive and UDL practices and approaches
● Strong digital and technological skills to support planning, programming and implementation needs of students and educators
● Work collaboratively with a variety of interdepartmental educators such as: Literacy, Numeracy, Speech & Language, and Anti-Oppression
● Excellent spoken and written communication skills
● Strong skills in teaching literacy including structured literacy instruction
● Strong skills in teaching numeracy including use of digital platforms
● Creative skills and ideas for planning practical and culturally relevant programs
● Knowledge and skill in developing a relevant and purposeful instruction program to help integrate MLL/ELD students into the classroom, the school and community.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ontario Teacher’s Certificate in good standing
