Job Description

This position supports classroom programs related to food preparation and food safety under the day-to-day direction of Hospitality and Tourism teachers.  Candidates must be able to stand/walk for extended periods, and lift boxes, cooking equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs.

  • Provide assistance and direction to students in food handling and food preparation techniques
  • Assist with the organization and preparation of the kitchen, serving and instruction areas and teaching aids
  • Serve food, and/or assist students serving food to customers, staff and/or students
  • Assist with catering/sales functions
  • Operate and care for kitchen and laundry equipment and maintain sanitation levels in all areas of the kitchen/instruction area
  • Operate a cash register and/or collect money for catering
  • Check, receive and store food supplies and review inventory

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Secondary School Diploma including related Hospitality and Tourism courses (e.g. baking, food preparation)
  • Six months’ related experience working with adolescents in an education or community environment
  • Experience in large volume food production
  • Experience using commercial kitchen equipment
  • WHMIS/HACCP knowledge

Additional Information

Rate of Pay:

Supply rate: $20.24 per hour

 - 3.4% statutory holiday pay and 4% vacation pay are added to these rates

Temporary rate after 30 days: $26.98 per hour

- 3.8% statutory holiday pay and 4% vacation pay are added to these rates

Rates effective September 1, 2024

Schedule:

Up to 6 hours and 50 minutes per day between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm

To support our students and to continue on our roster, replacement staff are required to work a minimum of 60 days during the school year.
