JOB PURPOSE

The Associate Teacher role provides a broad spectrum of opportunities to refine your teaching skills and gain a deep understanding of best practices in education. You'll have the chance to develop your expertise in classroom management, collaboration, assessment, communication, and innovative technology integration.
As an Associate Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in our School’s academic program, working closely with students in the Junior School. Your responsibilities will include assisting teachers in the classroom, covering classes, supporting the co-curricular programming, supervising student activities, and various support roles related to teaching and learning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in planning and delivering engaging curriculum in your assigned classrooms
Infuse The York School's mission into all curricular and co-curricular activities, ensuring our values shine through in everything we do
Work with small groups and individual students, providing guidance on classwork and projects
Embrace innovative teaching techniques and technology to enhance the learning experience
Create a positive, engaging teaching and learning environment through effective classroom management practices
Contribute to student co-curricular and athletic programs as a teacher leader, supervisor, or coach
Be an active participant in faculty and other school meetings, contributing to the vibrant community of educators at The York School
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
A Bachelor’s degree, B.Ed. and membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
Primary/Junior qualifications required
Classroom experience an asset, either volunteering or teaching
Training and experience teaching the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) and/or Diploma Programme (DP) considered an asset
Strong ability to work as part of a collaborative team
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to interact with students, parents and teachers cheerfully, enthusiastically, courteously, patiently and with discretion
Strong organisational and time management skills
A proactive team player who is flexible and self-motivated with a “How can I help?” attitude
Considerable proficiency in navigating a technologically rich school environment, with expertise in Google Workspace considered an asset
