We are currently looking for a Junior School Well-being Counsellor to join our Student Well-being department at BSS. Our Junior School Well-being Counsellor will expertly navigate the social and emotional life of girls and the overall well-being of students. 

What You’ll Do:

• Provides individual and small group counselling to meet the social, emotional and well-being needs of students when they are beginning to struggle or experiencing stress

• Supports students during unstructured time, including, recesses, lunch and transitions

• Develops a clear understanding of students’ IEPs, and liaises with the Learning Specialist in order to support students with learning exceptionalities or mental health needs 

• Provides educational workshops for students and parents on social emotional learning 

• Ensure timely crisis intervention and referrals to relevant resources. 

• Support students with conflict resolution, aid in transitions between grade levels, and manage medical condition accommodations

• Active member of the school community, which includes co-curriculars and attending school events 

Who You Are:

• Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certificate preferably in Guidance and/or Special Education preferred

• Education experience related to well-being eg. Master of Social Work, Child and Youth Worker, Certificate of Applied Positive Psychology or Positive Educator’s Certificate

• Expertise working with students who are neurodiverse

• Crisis intervention and mental health certifications

• Passion and desire to continually learn about the mental wellbeing and social emotional lives of young children and pre-teenagers, and girls, in particular
