We are currently looking for a Junior School Well-being Counsellor to join our Student Well-being department at BSS. Our Junior School Well-being Counsellor will expertly navigate the social and emotional life of girls and the overall well-being of students.
What You’ll Do:
Provides individual and small group counselling to meet the social, emotional and well-being needs of students when they are beginning to struggle or experiencing stress
Supports students during unstructured time, including, recesses, lunch and transitions
Develops a clear understanding of students’ IEPs, and liaises with the Learning Specialist in order to support students with learning exceptionalities or mental health needs
Provides educational workshops for students and parents on social emotional learning
Ensure timely crisis intervention and referrals to relevant resources.
Support students with conflict resolution, aid in transitions between grade levels, and manage medical condition accommodations
Active member of the school community, which includes co-curriculars and attending school events
Who You Are:
Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certificate preferably in Guidance and/or Special Education preferred
Education experience related to well-being eg. Master of Social Work, Child and Youth Worker, Certificate of Applied Positive Psychology or Positive Educator’s Certificate
Expertise working with students who are neurodiverse
Crisis intervention and mental health certifications
Passion and desire to continually learn about the mental wellbeing and social emotional lives of young children and pre-teenagers, and girls, in particular
