Auto Mechanic

1 Permanent Position

Afternoon Shift

CUPE Local 4400, Unit D – 12 Months - 40 hours per week

Hourly Rate of Pay:  $41.62

Overall Purpose

The Toronto District School Board invites applications, in resume format, for the position of Auto Mechanic. To be located in the LC2 Fleet at 85 Shorting Road (1 Afternoon shift).

 

Summary of Duties

  • Perform major maintenance and repair of a variety of light and heavy duty vehicles.
  • Conduct MTO safety inspections of the Boards’ vehicle fleet.
  • Inspect, repair/replace or overhaul of vehicle components as required.
  • Diagnose & Repair electronic systems of the Board’s vehicles and landscaping equipment.
  • Provide on road maintenance when needed.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.
  • Complete work orders legibly and accurately.
  • Maintain a Clean and Safe environment.
  • Comply with Health & Safety regulations in the workplace and TDSB Policies and Procedures.

 

Qualifications

  • Applicants will possess provincial certificates of qualifications as a 310T Truck & Coach Technician with demonstratable relevant experience. 310S Automotive Service Technician certificate an asset.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario driver’s license in good standing with a copy of a current abstract. Z endorsement an asset.
  • Ability to maintain a co-operative working relationship with other members of Board staff at all levels and the general public.
  • A good work record including a record of reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Applicants must have been active in the Auto Technicians Trade for the last five years.
  • Candidates must have all hand tools required and be well acquainted with the general maintenance and repair of large school buses, large and small trucks and grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Experience with diesel engines, air and hydraulic brake systems, and electronic systems required.
  • Heavy Equipment repair and servicing experience an asset.
  • Computer skills ability to utilize online line repair diagnostic portals (Mitchell On Demand) required.

Shift:                     Afternoon Shift (Shifts are subject to change per operational  requirements and during school non-operating periods).

Hours:                   8 hours per day

  1. Under the provisions of the collective agreement, the successful applicant will be considered as part of the Transportation Grouping and not the Group from which they previously belonged.  To understand the impact, please contact your Supervisor and/or your union representative.  
  2. Applicants who are on Seniority List A within the Transportation Grouping will be given first consideration followed by applicants on Seniority List A from all other Groupings. Applicants who are on Seniority List B will be given third consideration.
  3. An Employee transferring from List B to List A shall not be entitled to rely on seniority accumulated as a List B Employee for the purpose of Layoff, Recall, or the Job Posting and Promotion process.
  4. Where an employee is successful posting/bidding to a position in a different grouping, the employee shall be subject to a three (3) month trial period. Employees from the caretaking grouping who are not successful in their new position during the trial period will be returned to the unassigned pool of the Learning Centre that they originally left and be frozen from bidding for six (6) months. Should the employees from other groupings not be successful in their new position during the trial period then the employee shall be returned to their previous position, if available, subject to Article BB. And be frozen from bidding for six (6) months.
  5. The Employer shall review the hours of work of existing employees and the economic impact which will result if the Employer offers this position to such employee. Employees whose combined total hours of work of this advertised position and any other position(s) held at the TDSB attract overtime under the ESA shall not be considered for this vacancy.
