Position Overview

Marten Falls First Nation is seeking applications for a full-time Grade 3-4 Teacher at Henry Coaster Memorial School. Marten Falls First Nation is a remote fly-in community on the Albany River. It is accessible from Thunder Bay, ON or Nakina, ON. This is a meaningful opportunity to teach and inspire students in a culturally rich and supportive environment. The successful candidate will lead a dynamic and inclusive classroom that promotes student learning, personal growth, and well-being. 



Qualifications and Skills

Certification: Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT); Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent from an accredited institution.

Teaching Experience: Proven experience teaching at the elementary level, ideally in a multi-grade classroom setting.

Instructional Skills: Knowledge of current research-based teaching strategies in literacy and numeracy. Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Differentiated Instruction to meet diverse learning needs.

Assessment: Understanding of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment practices, with the ability to support students at various levels of achievement.

Classroom Management: Strong classroom management and organizational skills that create a safe, respectful learning environment.

Technology: Proficiency with educational technology and digital tools to enhance teaching and student learning in the classroom.

IEPs: Ability to develop, write, and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to support students with special learning requirements.

First Nations Experience: Experience teaching in a First Nation or band-operated school or in a cross-cultural environment is an asset. Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and languages (e.g., Ojibwe, Oji-Cree, Cree) and/or additional qualifications in Special Education are considered strong assets.

Housing: Housing is provided in the community (subsidized teacher accommodation) to make relocation easier for the successful candidate.

Relocation Support: Assistance with relocation and moving expenses will be available as needed to help the teacher transition to the community.

Compensation: Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, aligned with Henry Coaster Memorial School’s funding.
