Develop and maintain energy control programs, resolve problems, and provide training on building automation systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain energy control programs, resolve problems, and provide training on energy management systems.
  • Load system-level controller software.
  • Perform basic commissioning and system diagnostics from system-level controllers to end devices (i.e., sensors, actuators, etc.) and completes all required commissioning documentation.
  • Calibrate system requiring basic electronic test equipment.
  • Complete paperwork including but not limited to time sheets, expense reports, and on-site documentation. Order and track delivery for all project components.
  • Design Building Automation Control projects on both new and upgraded installations.
  • Analyze project plan specifications and contract documents to define project parameters.
  • Select control system components to ensure functionality and compliance.
  • Define component locations to ensure ease of operation and functionality.
  • Produce wiring diagrams, layout drawing, and material schedules as part of the design package.
  • Define and prescribe the system operating sequence.
  • Perform device validation and system commissioning.
  • Utilize the building automation system, design tools and programming abilities to meet the requirements of the plans and specifications.
  • Perform graphical interface and programming controller to accomplish HVAC routines.
  • Conduct start-up, final point check-out and calibration of all systems and its BAS Components.
  • Keep supervisor and/or Senior Technician apprised of job progress and all pertinent facts concerning the job while providing information to update drawings and records of completed tasks.
  • Project Coordinator will plan, organize, direct and execute all work associated with assigned small projects as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Be responsible for maintaining DDC controllers and associated field devices.
  • Maintain and back up DDC controller software.
  • Respond to customer service calls (emergency, on-site, or on-line) check indicated points of trouble, analyze requirements of system involved and cheek and test system components. Troubleshoot and resolve basic HVAC building automation systems and controls problems at our school sites. Diagnose trouble or defect, determine corrective action and repair system.
  • Test and verify system readings ensure an optimal system operation.
  • Price, propose and proceed with new work as per issued guidelines.
  • Deliver technical support coaching and direction to end users and other Service Technicians as applicable.
  • Ability to instruct training courses.
  • Perform other Duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Equipment Used

Pneumatic calibration kits, multimeters, Flow meters, networking protocols, various data devices, ADX and Web Based Server Equipment, cable testers, various BAS software and hardware tools, power and hand tools.

Qualifications

  • Electrical or Electronics Technician or Technologist Diploma, BAS course or other related 2-3 year College Diploma in HVAC or a related discipline.
  • 1-2 years of BAS, building operation experience. Minimum 2 years of field and programming experience in HVAC automation. Experience with Building Automation Control Systems as related to construction projects. Proficient in BAS programming, job start-up, checkout, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with integrating building controls into centralized networks. Advanced Apogee training in programming and parts installation, and experience in programming in PPCL and GPL.
  • An ability to read Architectural, Mechanical, Control Drawings and complex blueprints, comfortable in an office and construction environment.
  • Knowledge of MS Office including word processing and spreadsheet software, presentation and graphics software is required.
  • Strong written and communication skills. Communicate effectively both written and orally with staff, students and community users.
  • Team oriented individual with demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and self directed. Excellent customer relationship skills.
  • Knowledge of electronic and pneumatic control sequences and installations and operation sequences for various types of systems. Experience with various products and designs.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for electronics, programming, and systems operation.
  • Knowledge of server-based systems on various operating systems.
  • Formal programming training. A proficient understanding of both HVAC system design and operation, and the multi-level control logic implemented to achieve optimal energy savings and building comfort
  • Network configuration knowledge BLN, FLN, and N2 are required and BACNET, ethernet, Niagara and JACE experience would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative to learn new products and systems.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and provide an acceptable driver’s abstract annually .

Additional Information

This is a 40 hour per week temporary position available until approximately October 21, 2026.

The work schedule for this position is 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
