JOB PURPOSE
The York School is seeking a dedicated and adaptable Learning Strategist to provide tailored support to students in alignment with our school’s mission, vision, and values. This role requires an educator who can implement flexible strategies, including push-in and pull-out support models, to meet diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with faculty, the Principal, and the Wellbeing team to ensure students achieve their academic potential. In addition to supporting student learning, they will contribute to the school’s collaborative culture and commitment to educational excellence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, implement, and maintain student learning plans based on psycho-educational assessments to support individualized learning needs
Liaise with the International Baccalaureate to ensure accommodations align with their Access and Inclusion Policy
Collaborate with faculty, social workers, and administrators to identify and implement effective learning strategies for students
Assist with providing and managing assessment accommodations to ensure student success
Participate in co-teaching, including unit planning, lesson delivery, and fostering inclusive classroom environments
Foster the development of learning skills and promote positive academic interactions to support student success
Work with the IT department to support students in assistive technology tools and strategies
Communicate regularly with parents to share strategies, provide updates, and coordinate meetings or roundtables as needed
Create and implement transition plans for students entering the school or moving between divisions
Collaborate with Learning Strategists across Junior, Middle, and Senior School divisions to ensure consistency and continuity of support
Stay informed about and contribute to innovative teaching practices and professional development opportunities
Contribute to the broader school community by participating in school events
Perform supervision duties and other responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
A Bachelor’s degree, B.Ed. and membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
Minimum or 3-4 years experience teaching within the Diploma Programme (DP) considered a strong asset
Special Education Additional Qualifications (Parts 1 and 2) or equivalent training
Experience working with students of diverse learning needs, one-on-one, in small groups and in whole-class situations
Proven ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team, contributing to a positive, inclusive school culture
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Strong ability to engage collaboratively with students, parents, and staff, prioritizing a service-oriented approach by ensuring professionalism, respect, and responsiveness in all interactions
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
Proficiency in navigating a technologically rich school environment, with expertise in Google Workspace considered an asset
