Job Description

The Ontario Public School Boards' Association (OPSBA) represents over 1.3 million elementary and secondary students in 31 public district school boards and 10 school authorities across Ontario. In its role as an advocate for public education in Ontario, OPSBA is regarded as a credible, expert voice by promoting a high-quality system that is focused on improving every student’s success and well-being. OPSBA works with diverse partners and stakeholders across Ontario, including the provincial government, to provide regular advice and input regarding the impacts of legislation and government policy directions. OPSBA is seeking an experienced and skilled leader with a passion for supporting public education to serve as its next Executive Director.

Reporting to the Board of Directors and working with the Board’s Executive Council within OPSBA’s governance structure, the Executive Director will serve as the Chief Administrative Officer of the Association. The Executive Director will be an outstanding relationship-builder and communicator capable of leading and supporting OPSBA to achieve its important mission, vision and advocacy role. The candidate will be knowledgeable and skilled in supporting effective governance in the context of working with and supporting publicly elected trustees, and in providing leadership and direction to the organization and its staff to deliver on its strategic priorities while ensuring the effective operations of OPSBA. The Executive Director will demonstrate a clear understanding and appreciation for the legislated role of OPSBA as the bargaining agent for public school boards throughout the province, and the ability to lead this role and work with integrity and credibility. The Executive Director will facilitate cooperative decision making and collaborative action amongst OPSBA members, partners, staff and stakeholders and will ensure that the principles of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion are embedded in all areas and aspects of the organization.
