We are accepting applications for the Certified (OCT) Elementary Occasional Roster for the 2025/2026 school year.

The Durham District School Board (DDSB) is responsible for public education in the rural settings of Uxbridge, Brock and Scugog Townships and the urban settings of Ajax, Whitby, Pickering, and Oshawa. The DDSB employs 10,000 staff in a wide variety of roles and is one of the largest employers in Durham Region. With 136 elementary and secondary schools and learning centers, the DDSB accommodates more than 79,000 regular day students and thousands more who take advantage of a wide variety of continuing education and adult credit courses.

Occasional teachers accept assignments within our board that could last one day to several days in multiple schools. Our Occasional teachers are essential to ensure learning continues in the classrooms when staff are absent.

The Occasional Roster is a great way to get to know the school communities in DDSB.

When applying for any teaching position with the DDSB, please include the following:

  • THIS POSTING IS FOR CERTIFIED (OCT) TEACHERS
  • Ontario teaching certification and registration with the Ontario College of Teachers (enter you OCT number in your ApplyToEducation profile) and your resume
  • Resume and cover letter
  • Practice Teaching Reports or recent appraisal (if available)
  • Two (2) References - names and email addresses (phone numbers if possible) or letters of at least two recent professional references (eg. Principal, Vice Principal, Associate Teachers, Faculty Advisors)

Upon hire:

  • You must provide the Human Resources department with a current obtained or applied for (within six months of your start date) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
