We are looking for an enthusiastic and collaborative Financial Accountant to join the Finance Department of the College. This permanent full-time position will report to the Finance Manager and will be responsible for accounts payable, student billing, financial accounting, internal controls and general support to the Finance Manager and CFOO. This is an integral role in the Finance Department.
Primary responsibilities and desired qualifications of the Financial Accountant include the following:
Accounts Payable
● Code and match invoices and expense reports to appropriate documentation
● Process invoices, expense reports and monthly allowances/donations
● Issue payments via EFT, wire or cheque as appropriate
● Resolve invoice and expense report discrepancies with vendors and staff
● Maintain digital record keeping of all payments and supporting documentation
● Ensure compliance with excise taxes (HST/GST) including quarterly remittances
Bank Reconciliations
● Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for both the College and Foundation
● Prepare corresponding journal entries
Student Billing
● Process student account billings including interest and late payment charges
● Maintain scholarship and bursary billing information
● Issue monthly billing statements
● Investigate and resolve parent student billing queries (with the Finance Manager)
Financial Accounting and Internal Controls
● Prepare monthly journal entries
● Provide monthly/quarterly account analysis
● Prepare short and long-term forecasts for Composite Student Activity Fee accounts
● Assist with College working papers for year-end audit
● Prepare input documents/working papers for annual budget
● Work with Finance Manager and organizers on financial components of events and trips
● With the CFO and Finance Manager, ensure ongoing effectiveness of internal controls and make recommendations for improvements
Other
● Assist Finance Manager and/or CFO with project work as required (e.g., financial systems implementation)
● Other Finance duties as assigned
Qualifications
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Ability to problem solve
● Ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously
● Strong accounting skills and knowledge of appropriate internal controls
● Minimum 3 years’ experience in an accounting role
● Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize a variety of tasks
● Proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite applications
● CPA or working towards designation an asset
● Experience working with Blackbaud software an asset

The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $70,000 and reflects the required experience and qualifications for this role. Final compensation and total rewards will be determined based on the successful candidate’s unique skill set and may vary from the listed range.
