Boarding Life Don

Location: Oakville, Ontario (reside on-site)
Type: Full-time contract (September 2026 – June 2027)

Salary Range: $36,000, plus on-campus housing and meals, subject to taxable benefits

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Boarding Life Don to join our community at Appleby College. HOW YOU WILL THRIVE:

As a Boarding Life Don, you will provide guidance and support to our boarding students while organizing meaningful programs. In collaboration with the House Director and Assistant House Director, you will contribute to creating a safe and inclusive welcoming environment for all students.

 



HOW YOU WILL SUCCEED:

  • Supervise and provide pastoral care to boarding students during the day, evenings, and weekends, ensuring a supportive environment while residing on campus
  • Build strong, personal relationships with students by being approachable, visible, and available to advise on both academic and personal matters
  • Collaborate with the House Director and Assistant House Director to foster positive communication and culture within the house
  • Undertake various supervisory duties including study duty, recreational facility duty, academic day house supervision, and late-night supervision on a rotating basis
  • Participate in regular meetings with House Faculty and the Director of Boarding Life to discuss student well-being and house activities
  • Work closely with the Day Student Coordinator to integrate day students into the boarding program
  • Plan and supervise weekend programs and activities, especially for long-distance boarders
  • Coordinate and supervise programming during long weekends and school term breaks for students unable to return home
  • Provide transportation and accompany students to medical appointments, when necessary, as well as assist during student emergencies
  • Ensure proper return and check-in of boarders after long weekends and breaks
  • Track student attendance and academic progress 
  • Teach up to two full-credit courses or equivalent responsibilities as needed
  • Provide substitute teaching coverage as needed
  • Commit to co-curricular activities and clubs for three consecutive terms 
      

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including faculty and health care providers
  • A commitment to embracing and supporting a diverse student body, fostering inclusivity in all aspects of boarding life
  • Post-secondary education is preferred
  • OCT qualification is an asset
  • Previous experience working with students in a residential or boarding setting is an advantage
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Availability for frequent evening and weekend work, and flexibility to supervise during school breaks and community weekends
