Job Description

North York Little Prints Daycare (Little Prints) has been caring for children for more than 30 years.

We operate five licensed not-for-profit centres under the same management team. We have a Purchase of Service Agreement with the City of Toronto for families requiring childcare subsidies. Little Prints programs are delivered by qualified, caring professionals who celebrate the joy and wonder of childhood.

As “A Community of Families Growing Together”, we play, learn and share together in our centres and in our community, so our kids learn to be positive citizens of the world.

Our centres receive top ratings from the city and province in all categories: facility and staffing, curriculum development, child safety, and nutrition.

Little Prints is seeking an inspiring and dynamic team player to lead and shape the future of its organization. This is a unique opportunity to serve as the public and professional face of Little Prints, providing strategic vision, operational leadership, and organizational management of this five-centre daycare. The Executive Director’s role is equally about stabilization and modernization.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THIS ROLE

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 7 – 10 years’ experience working in a leadership position within a liked-sized non-profit childcare, ideally with multi-site management. The Board is looking for candidates who bring a balance of operational depth and leadership experience.
  • Excellent business/financial acumen with experience reading a balance sheet and building budgets.
  • Collaborative. Proven HR and people leadership experience including management, conflict resolution, recruitment and mentorship. Ability to lead, motivate and collaborate with staff. Leadership and management experience as they relate to non-profit and childcare sectors.
  • Ability to manage and align diverse external advisors and stakeholders.
  • Strategic communication and advocacy experience with government & community partners.
  • Experience in responding to/collaborating with a not-for-profit volunteer Board of Directors.
  • Proficient in appropriate technologies, (Microsoft Suite), system usage or implementation of new systems.
  • Knowledge of CWELCC and Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA).
  • Knowledge of Ontario Not-for-profit Corporations Act (ONCA) is an asset.
  • A strategic thinker, who sets priorities but also recognizes when to roll up sleeves and execute.
  • One who respects the history of Little Prints and the staff knowledge; sensitive to how to successfully implement change.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of creating respectful, nurturing and empowering relationships and building a cohesive team. Understands the importance of being visible at all sites.
  • Knowledge of child behaviour, mental health and knowledge/awareness of child behaviour.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of “How Does Learning Happen?”, The Early Years Policy Framework”, “The Early Years and Child Care Act, AQI, Public Health and other relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Conducting Workplace Investigations related to harassment legislation and Employment Standards Act 2000, seeks support from Little Prints Legal Advisor.
  • Possesses a valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a vehicle for the purposes of business travel. 

Education

  • Early Childhood Education Diploma and Early Childhood Management Certificate (Post-Diploma) at George Brown College or equivalent, or equivalent in health management
  • A degree in business is an asset    
  • Valid Standard First-Aid and Level C CPR Certificate (an asset)

The successful candidate will be asked to provide proof of a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
