Early Childhood Educator

Full-Time - Permanent

Commencing August 31, 2026

For more than 155 years, The Bishop Strachan School has empowered talented girls to grow into fearless women, equipped with intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and compassion to navigate the world. We inspire our students to discover their purpose, build confidence, and express themselves with a strong, independent voice. As an inclusive, non-profit institution, we are dedicated to educating students from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12. We are now also almost two years into our strategic plan. Launched in January 2023, we set out to educate more female leaders and we have made a great deal of progress since that launch. Check out what we have achieved by going here. Join BSS and be a part of inspiring girls to be fearless and educating them to be leaders.

Early Childhood Educators (“ECE”) are dedicated staff members who support the school's mission by working in partnership with the classroom teacher to deliver an exemplary, Reggio-inspired kindergarten program. Viewing the child as competent, capable, and a protagonist in their own learning, ECEs help create an inquiry-based environment that acts as the "third teacher." As a community that values the education of the whole person, ECEs contribute beyond their classroom teaching to enrich student experiences across academics, co-curricular activities, and community-building initiatives.

What You’ll Do:

In collaboration with the classroom teacher:

  • Designs and delivers engaging lessons that align with the school's educational philosophy and the Ontario Kindergarten Curriculum.
  • Designs learning environments that enhance children’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional development in kindergarten.
  • Engages in documentation to support assessment as, of and for learning.
  • Contributes to reporting on student progress and provides comprehensive feedback to students and parents through various channels, including report cards and learning conferences.
  • Supports children’s development of self-regulation and social skills through active modeling and explicit teaching.
  • Creates and maintains learning environments (both indoor and outdoors) that are organized, open and flexible and reflect the values of a BSS education.

In the role of ECE:

  • Actively builds a cohesive co-teaching partnership based on shared planning, mutual respect, and open communication.
  • Commits to teaching in ways that are best for girls’ learning; and in pursuing new methodologies that enhance girls’ learning experiences.
  • Fosters strong, respectful relationships with students, colleagues, and parents to create a supportive and collaborative school community.
  • Contributes to the duty schedule, co-curriculars and school activities.
  • Authentically embeds inclusion and belonging into all processes.
  • Complies with all the school’s policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee and Faculty/Staff Handbooks.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to personal and professional growth through reflection, goal-setting, collaboration with colleagues and continued learning through the Faculty Growth Process.

*This is a general description and should not be construed as all inclusive.

Who You Are:

  • Preference given to candidates with a four year degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Experience in a school or pre-school setting
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators
