Appleby College is seeking a strategic and relationship-oriented Manager, Development - Major Gifts to join our Advancement team. This role supports the School’s fundraising priorities and helps strengthen a culture of philanthropy across the Appleby community. HOW YOU WILL THRIVE:

You will lead the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a major gifts portfolio, building strong relationships with donors, colleagues, and the broader Appleby community. Through these partnerships, you will help advance impactful philanthropic initiatives that expand student opportunities and support the School’s long-term vision.
 

HOW YOU WILL SUCCEED:

  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects to advance fundraising goals.
  • Build and actively manage a dynamic portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, ensuring accurate and timely moves management.
  • Partner with the Development team to design and execute integrated strategies across major and leadership giving, annual giving, planned giving, and event-based fundraising.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of fundraising campaigns, donor engagement initiatives, and stewardship events.
  • Foster strong partnerships with Advancement colleagues, administrative teams, and faculty to support fundraising initiatives across the School.
  • Support the development and implementation of fundraising policies and processes while ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Advancement team to deliver a coordinated donor relations and stewardship program, including recognition initiatives, receipting, reporting, and ongoing donor communications.
  • Prepare compelling correspondence, briefing notes, stewardship reports, and impact stories in partnership with the Marketing & Communications team.
  • Help craft targeted proposals and communications that showcase Appleby’s mission and philanthropic priorities to Canadian and international audiences.

 

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Post-secondary degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising, donor solicitation, or related relationship-management or sales roles, preferably within the non-profit or advancement sector.
  • Proven ability to build and manage strong relationships with diverse stakeholders while achieving fundraising or revenue goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with experience preparing proposals, cases for support, briefing materials, and stewardship reports.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and multi-phase initiatives from start to completion.
  • Proficiency with client relationship management systems and databases (e.g., Raiser’s Edge) and digital communication tools.
  • Results-oriented, with sound judgment, initiative, and creative problem-solving skills; knowledge of and passion for education, with familiarity with the Appleby community considered an asset.
