With a staff of 14,000, the TCDSB is a dynamic school board and is seeking an Accounting Summer Student for a temporary five (5) month contract within the Financial Services department.

Pay Rate: $23/Hr (Exclusive of Statutory Holiday & Vacation Pay)

Period of Employment: May 4th, 2026, to September 3, 2026

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Reporting to and under the direction of the Senior Manager, Audit, Accounting and Assurance, this role provides the opportunity to gain experience in various accounting functions. The position supports the accounting department in general accounting functions, while gaining practical knowledge of accounting systems and financial processes.

  • Assist with reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, including bank, prepaid, accrual, and clearing accounts
  • Maintain accurate financial records
  • Provide general administrative and accounting support
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently enrolled in 2nd/ 3rd year degree program in Accounting
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to learn quickly
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel skills and working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint
  • Must be a Canadian resident or have Landed Immigration status, with a valid work permit approved through Immigration Canada
  • Must have a valid social insurance number

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Develop an understanding of financial recordkeeping and the accounting cycle, including the recording of transactions
  • Learn how to reconcile balance sheet accounts such as bank, prepaid expenses, accruals, and clearing accounts
  • Gain exposure to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes
  • Learn how to analyze financial data and perform account reconciliations to ensure accuracy

MENTORSHIP & SUPPORT:

  • Pairing with experienced Accounting Officer during the first two weeks
  • Regular check-ins with the project manager
  • Access to learning resources and training materials
