Key Responsibilities

TDSB is hiring an Executive Officer of Finance. As the Executive Officer of Finance, you will advance our commitment to academic excellence and student well-being by safeguarding, overseeing, and allocating financial resources in support of the 2024-2028 Multi-Year Strategic Plan: Inspiring Minds & Shaping Futures, and by delivering modern and responsive business services aligned with our organization’s core mandate.

You’ll leverage your service-oriented leadership style to collaborate with senior leaders to ensure that resources are allocated in the best interest of all students so that every student has the opportunity to succeed. Reporting to the Associate Director, Modernization and Strategic Resource Allocation, you will work with the following committees: Audit Committee; and the Finance, Budget and Enrolment Committee. Reporting to the Executive Officer of Finance position are the following roles:

  • Comptroller of Budget, Financial Reporting, and Payroll Operations
  • Comptroller of Finance and Enterprise Risk Management
  • Senior Manager of Business Services, Community Services and Student Transportation Services
  • Senior Manager of Procurement and Support Services.

Eligible Candidates

The successful candidate will bring senior-level administrative expertise in a large educational or unionized public sector institution, or a similarly complex organization, demonstrating proven expertise in resource allocation, financial decision-making, and alignment of budget to organizational priorities.

  • University degree in Commerce, Finance, Business Administration or related discipline, and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with eight years of progressive experience in the financial management of a public sector organization; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A Business Supervisory Officer’s Qualification, or a commitment to obtaining the qualification within the first two years of employment is essential.
  • Expert knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Public Sector Accounting Standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of the K-12 education sector funding model and related legislative framework.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to advance the Board’s strategic objectives by collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in evidence-informed decision-making.
  • Political acuity and excellent knowledge of good governance principles to navigate complex public sector decision-making structures.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills to lead the delivery of key initiatives.
  • Creative problem solver and systems thinker in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
