Becoming a Teacher in Quebec

Most classroom teachers will tell you that the aha moment is one of the highlights of their job. We all know how great it feels to figure out something you were struggling with. Supporting a student as they go from frustrated and confused to grasping a new concept is an experience unlike any other. As a teacher, you’ll have a whole career filled with meaningful moments like this. But where do you start? This blog will outline everything you need to know to become a teacher in Quebec.

Requirements for becoming a teacher in Quebec

The requirements for becoming a teacher in Canada vary provincially. To be eligible for a teaching job in Quebec, you must hold a teaching licence issued under the Regulation respecting teaching licences. There are a few different ways to go about obtaining a teaching license.

Teacher Education Training

The most common method is to complete a four-year certified Bachelor of Education program, leading to a teaching diploma for preschool, elementary, and secondary school, and vocational training

A teacher education program allows you to develop your knowledge, skills, and professional abilities in preparation for the classroom. You will acquire a teaching diploma once you complete this training.

The process involves submitting an application and required documents. Depending on your credentials, you may receive a full teaching diploma or a probationary permit.
