Job Description

This person will be under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Compassionate Schools Services and be responsible for:

FUNCTION & DUTIES:

  • Contribute to the integration of Inuit culture into the Compassionate Schools approach;
  • Supporting schools in the implementation of the Compassionate Schools approach (trauma-informed practices in schools/ PBIS);
  • Preparing, presenting and participating in workshops aiming at rising awareness among school staff regarding effects of trauma on students and support school staff in behavioural management strategies;
  • Mentoring team leaders and internal coaches on school teams;
  • Must be able to travel frequently throughout Nunavik;
  • Any other related tasks as determined by his/her supervisor.


QUALIFICATIONS:

First level College or University Degree in a relevant specialization; An equivalent combination of education and experience in an Inuit field may be considered.

The Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualifications if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fluency in French or English;
  • Extensive knowledge of Inuit culture and Inuktitut;
  • Experience in working with students with challenging behaviours;
  • Knowledge on trauma-informed practices;
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavioural Interventions and Supports (PBIS);
  • Meeting facilitation skills and experience leading a group discussion;
  • Work within Kativik Ilisarniliriniq would be a definite asset;
  • Knowledge of restorative practices would be a definite asset.


CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:

In accordance with the SPPENOM collective agreement for professionals. This position belongs to job category 2104: from $55,282 TO $102,857 annually depending on qualification and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.
