Job Description

FUNCTION & DUTIES:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Teacher Training and Development and in cooperation with other administrators of Adult Education and Vocational Training, the Coordinator of Teacher Training is responsible for the following:
  • Coordinate with Québec universities to review and develop new and existing Nunavik-based certificate and bachelor of education programs leading to elementary and secondary certification.
  • Serve as specialist and lead in the development of new and existing programs, ensuring the curriculum is coherent across courses, seminars, and field experiences and aligns with Kativik Ilisarniliriniq Pre-Kindergarten to Secondary 5 curriculum and MEQ provincial standards.
  • Engage schools, program instructors, students, administration, and alumni in the development of teacher education and professional development programs, curriculum, and instructional methods.
  • Coordinate with schools and regional teacher training counsellors to oversee field experience components of teacher education programs, ensuring field experiences are aligned with and support program objectives.
  • Support university-hired instructors and Kativik Ilisarniliriniq consultants in course planning, curriculum mapping, instructional strategies, assessment and other aspects of course outline preparation.
  • Digitize and modernize course materials.
  • Develop in partnership with a university the first master's degree certification program for Nunavik Inuit in Inuktitut.
  • Perform any other related tasks as determined by his/her supervisor.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a graduate of the Kativik/McGill training program.
  • Five (5) years relevant experience.
  • Teaching diploma from the Québec Ministry of Education (MEQ).


The School Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the aforementioned qualification requirements if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Perfect command of Inuktitut and working knowledge of at least one of the other two working languages of Kativik Ilisarniliriniq (English and French).
  • Strong and well-honed intercultural communication skills.
  • Familiar with the Kativik-McGill training programs.
  • Willing and ready to travel across Nunavik.
  • Understand Québec's education system and Chapter 7 of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA).


CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:

Class 00-08 as per the working conditions of managers, from $101,612 to $135,480 annually depending on qualifications and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.
