Job Description

FUNCTION & DUTIES:

The position of Education Consultant in Inuktitut Curriculum Support (ICS) reports to the Assistant Director of the Inuktitut Language Team within the Education Services Department. The ICS is responsible for directly supporting Inuit Teachers in person and virtually with the KI curriculum. In collaboration with the Inuktitut Language team within the Education Services Department, the ICS supports curriculum development initiatives, implementation, revisions and any other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director.

IN GENERAL, THIS POSITION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support all Inuktitut Language Teachers with short and long-term planning, ordering teacher guides and student workbooks from the catalogue, classroom organization, computer and software proficiency and any other needs as requested by the teacher or the principal to aid in the teacher's development
  • Support Inuktitut Language Teachers in person, in their classrooms based on critical observational assessments reviewed by the team supported by direct feedback from both said teachers and principals and formulated into a personalized action plan for the teacher in aid of their on-going development
  • Works closely with the Inuktitut Language team Coordinator, other Education Consultants on the team, and with the Curriculum Developers as assigned by the Assistant Director.
  • Collaborate with Youth Sector colleagues as needed for unique additional support for teachers and students as they arise.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Holds a recognized teaching authorization from the MEQ under the Education Act for Cree, Inuit and Naskapi Native Persons
  • Experience Teaching in a Nunavik Classroom with Kativik Ilisarniliriniq.


The Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualifications if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fluency in spoken and written in Inuktitut.
  • Experience with creating workshops, conducting presentations or public speaking are an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of Inuktitut Curriculum within Kativik Ilisarniliriniq Schools is an asset.
  • Ability to use Microsoft 365 is considered an asset.
  • Required to travel to 14 communities and 18 schools in Nunavik and Montreal as needed.


CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:

In accordance with the SPPENOM collective agreement for professionals. This position belongs to job category 2104: from $56,670 to $105,432 annually depending on qualification and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.
