HVAC Technician within the
Environment Support Services Operations & Maintenance East/West department.

PLEASE NOTE: - Hours of work will fall within the day shift band (7:00 am to 4:00 pm) and may change consistent with the collective agreement. Hours to be confirmed upon hire.

- Written and practical tests will be facilitated to short-listed candidates
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor for their assigned area:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all HVAC/R systems including:
- Boilers, furnaces, unit heaters, make-up air units
- Chillers, cooling towers, heat pumps
- Rooftop units, split systems, VRF/VRV systems
- Exhaust, supply, and ventilation systems
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and replace heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration equipment
- Assemble, install, and service refrigeration and air-conditioning components and controls
- Commission HVAC/R systems and perform functional performance testing
- Measure, cut, connect, weld, and braze piping and tubing as required
- Test systems for leaks, evacuate systems, and charge with refrigerants in accordance with regulations
- Handle, recover, recycle, and store refrigerants in compliance with ODP and environmental requirements
- Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC control systems, including interface with the Building Automation System (BAS)
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, electronic, and control-related faults
- Maintain accurate records including work orders, inspections, maintenance logs, refrigerant usage, and vehicle records
- Maintain a complete set of personal tools as required by the trade
- Ensure safe operation, care, and storage of Board-supplied tools and vehicles
- The use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times
- Perform other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS : - Minimum five (5) years' experience maintaining and servicing HVAC and refrigeration systems, including boiler, chiller, air-conditioning, and gas-fired equipment
- Experience working in institutional, commercial, or large-scale facilities is considered an asset
- Experience with energy-efficient systems, heat recovery, and low-GWP refrigerants is considered an asset
- Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and modern HVAC control strategies is an asset
- Strong mechanical and technical aptitude
- Working knowledge of electrical systems, motors, and controls
- Ability to read schematics and plans wiring diagrams, and blueprints
- General knowledge of HVAC control strategies and BAS operation
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
REQUIREMENTS: - Valid Gas Fitter License (G1)
- Valid Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Systems Mechanic License (313A)
- Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) Certificate
- Must be proficient in the English language to comprehend manuals and maintain work orders
- Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and access to a reliable automobile
- Candidates must submit copies of Gas Fitters license (G1), ODP Certificate and Drivers License with the applications in order to be considered. If candidates are selected for an interview, they must submit proof of good driving record before the interview.
This is a
CUPE Local 4400 position with a pay rate of
$ 47 68 /hr .
