With a staff of 14,000, the TCDSB is a dynamic school board and is seeking a full-time Fire Alarm Technicianwithin the Environment Support Services Operations & Maintenance East/West department.

This is a 1 year temporary position and may end early at the discretion of the Board.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Hours of work will fall within the day shift band (7:00 am to 4:00 pm) and may change consistent with the collective agreement. Hours to be confirmed upon hire.
  • Flexible home base, to be determined by management, based on system needs
  • Written and practical tests will be facilitated to short-listed candidates

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Report to the Maintenance Supervisor in the assigned region
  • Responsible for the minor repairs, inspection and testing of fire/security alarms in all schools and administrative buildings and minor repairs for the PA system
  • Ensure that all applicable National Building Code of Canada, The National Fire Code of Canada, all applicable CAN/ULC Standards, By-Laws and requirements of The Authority Having Jurisdiction are followed and met
  • Ensure that all applicable fire code specifications are met and that all equipment is maintained to the manufacturer's recommendations
  • Responsible for the safe operation and safekeeping of tools supplied by the Board and the safe operation and maintenance of company vehicles while in use
  • Maintain accurate records (e.g., vehicle maintenance, work orders, timesheets, fire alarm system annual test and inspection reports etc.)
  • Perform other job-related duties as required
  • The use of proper safety protective equipment is required at all times

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years practical experience
  • Experience in conventional and addressable fire alarm systems, and key valves and switches on fire protection systems
  • Experience with monitoring systems, emergency lighting systems, and extinguishing systems
  • Sprinkler and Fire Protection Installer certification is an asset
  • Experience in conventional and addressable security and PA systems is an asset
  • Working knowledge of electrical equipment and material
  • Ability to understand schematics and plans
  • Ability to work independently according to schedule without close supervision.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a registered Fire Alarm Technician by the Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFFA) (candidates must submit proof of CFAA Registration Number with application).
  • Must be able to comprehend manuals and maintain work records.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver's "G" license. (candidates must submit their driver's license with their application) and access to a reliable automobile If candidates are selected for an interview, they must submit proof of good driving record before the interview

This is a CUPE Local 4400 position with a pay rate of $ 3 7 05 /hr .
