Toronto District School Board: Inspiring Minds and Shaping Futures

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is the largest school board in Canada and the 4th largest in North America. Known for its multiculturalism and diversity, the TDSB has students from over 200 different cultural backgrounds speaking more than 100 languages. This diversity is reflected in its curriculum, programs, and services, which aim to support the needs of all students. 

The TDSB’s mission is to enable all students to reach high levels of achievement and to acquire the knowledge, skills, and values they need to become responsible members of a democratic society.

TDSB Staff   

The TDSB employs approximately 42,000 individuals, this includes:

  • Permanent teachers (Elementary & Secondary)

  • Occasional teachers (Elementary & Secondary)

  • Permanent support staff

  • Supply/casual employees (including Designated Early Childhood Educators, professional support workers, caretakers, maintenance staff, IT support, administrators, etc.)

TDSB Schools

  • 582 schools in total

  • 472 Elementary Schools (including 1 Elementary/Secondary Indigenous Education School, 18 Elementary Alternative Schools, 6 Special Education Self-Contained Schools)

  • 110 Secondary Schools (including 1 Elementary/Secondary Alternative School, 20 Secondary Alternative Schools, 4 Caring and Safe Schools Programs, 5 Adult/EdVance Programs, 2 Native Learning Centres, 6 Special Education Self-Contained Schools)

The communities served by the TDSB encompass regions such as downtown Toronto, North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, and York, among others. Each area has its distinct character, demographics, and educational needs, and the TDSB strives to provide equitable access to quality education for all students across its geographical jurisdiction.
