Regional Student Counsellor (Education Consultant)

Job Description

FUNCTION & DUTIES:

  • Provide support for student counselors as they resolve problems arising in the classroom.
  • Assist in re-integration of drop-out students into schools.
  • Hold regular meetings with individual student counsellors to assist them with their case load.
  • Support student counselors in developing tools to facilitate communication between students, teachers, parents and community.
  • Visit classrooms when necessary.
  • Work on resources that strengthen the students' self-image as Inuit.
  • Provide information and advice to the school staff and Education Committee when confidentiality is not jeopardized.
  • Maintain communication with local employers.
  • Maintain communication with local representatives of social services.
  • Must be able to work autonomously and respect deadlines.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fluency in spoken and written Inuktitut.
  • Good communication skills with young people and adults.
  • Maturity, ability to work independently.
  • Must be willing to follow a training program on a regular basis (2 to 3 times a year).


The Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualifications if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of a second language is an asset.
  • Experience working with children and youth 5-18 an asset


CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:

In accordance with the SPPENOM collective agreement for professionals. This position belongs to job category 2104: from $56,670 TO $105,432 annually depending on qualification and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.
