YMCA Northumberland is currently accepting applications for the following vacant position:

Seeking a Registered Early Childhood Educator or to join our Preschool Program at our YMCA Canton location. Nestled in the library hub building just ten minutes north of Port Hope is our newest YMCA licensed childcare centre, which offers infant, toddler and preschool spaces for children and families, as well as a career opportunity for a caring, and dedicated educators!

What you bring?…. Qualifications include:

  • Completion of a two-year college diploma in Early Childhood Education with three months childcare experience in an educational setting
  • Registration and in Good Standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Proven ability to follow directions, policies and procedures in an appropriate and timely manner
  • Commitment to confidentiality, understanding of privacy and ethical responsibilities
  • Experience planning and implementing age-appropriate programs
  • Basic computer skills, usage of parent communication apps and iPad usage
  • Awareness of the cultural and social differences of children and families
  • Ability to assist children with washroom routines, dressing and lunchtime activities
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, written and oral skills.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification level C
  • Immunization record with Ontario mandated vaccines

 

What to expect from this role?…. Responsibilities include:

Registered Early Childhood Educators will work Monday to Friday; rotating shifts will be between 6:30a.m. to 6:30p.m. on a 40 hour work week basis. You will work in Canton, at the Canton YMCA Northumberland full day centre with a wage of $26.00 an hour, depending on qualifications and experience. 

As an educator, you will ensure that YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum is followed and all standards are exceeded with respect to quality assurance and guidelines. Training for curriculum will be provided:  

  • ·       Plan programs and environments for play and activities to create opportunities for developmental progress
  • ·       Incorporate learning experiences designed to meet the individual needs of the children, using a variety of teaching techniques; observe and assess children's progress and behaviour on a routine basis
  • ·       Establish and maintain positive daily communication with children, families, YMCA staff and community contacts, collaborating to address individual student's identified needs, stages of development and interests
  • ·       Act as a professional role model for children, volunteers, students and fellow staff members.
  • ·       Work together as an integral part of a team that meets the social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs of all children in the childcare program.
  • ·        Participate in YMCA trainings, meetings and childcare events.
  • ·       Provide positive social experiences including sharing, cooperation and role modeling the YMCA Core Values- Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Inclusiveness and Health
  • ·       Employ developmentally appropriate activities to build skills in literacy and cognition through large and small group activities
  • ·       Maintain all appropriate records for students (e.g. attendance, health issues, etc.
